Department of Justice (DoJ) Usec. and Spokesman Markk Perete confirmed that another freed convict in the 1997 Chiong sisters rape-slay case surrendered on Monday.

The said suspect — James Anthony Uy — was one of those released under the RA No. 10592 or the expanded good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law.

Justice Usec. Deo Marco earlier csaid that two heinours crime convicts namely Ariel Balansag and Alberto Caño have come forward. These two surrendered after President Rodrigo Duterte announced a 15-day ultimatum for heinous crime convicts freed on good conduct credits to surrender.

They were all sentenced to reclusion perpetua or up to 40 years of imprisonment for the kidnapping, rape and killing of Marijoy and jacqueline Chiong on July 16, 1997 in Cebu City.

Balansag and Caño were now back at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP)
