Nakatanggap ng pinansiyal na tulong ang nasa 800 sugar farmers sa Batangas na apektado sa pagsasara ng isa sa pinaka malaking sugar milling company sa bansa.
Mismong si Speaker Martin Romualdez ang nanguna sa pamamahagi ng P10,000.00 halaga ng tulong sa mga apektadong magsasaka.
Siniguro din ni Speaker na gagawa sila ng hakbang para matulungan ang mga magsasaka at maghahanap ng long-term solution para tugunan ang problema sa nasabing sektor.
Kung maalala, nang magsara ang Central Azucarera de Don Pedro, Inc. (CADPI) sa Nasugbu, Batangas, humingi ng tulong ang Sugar Folks Unity for Genuine Agricultural Reform kasama si Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas kay Speaker Romualdez na talagang pinakinggan ng house leader ang mga hinaing ng mga sugar farmers.
Dahil dito, kaagad nakipag ugnayan si House Speaker sa the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para mabigyan ng tulong ang mga apektadong sugar farmers.
“That is why I am immensely proud to share with you today the collaborative efforts of the Sugar Folks Unity for Genuine Agricultural Reform, Gabriela Representative Arlene Brosas, and the House Speaker’s Office,” pahayag ni Speaker.
Pinasalamatan naman ni Speaker ang mga kapwa mambabatas na tumulong sa mga apektadong magsasaka gaya nina House Committee on Appropriations Chairperson Zaldy Co, Gabriela Rep. Brosas, Batangas 1st District Rep. Eric R. Buhain at Balayan Municipal officials sa pamumuno ni Mayor Emmanuel Salvador P. Fronda II.
“Your unwavering dedication and commitment to the welfare of our constituents are truly commendable,” pahayag ni Speaker Romualdez.
Dagdag pa ni Romualdez, “I have also requested all government agencies now here with us to pool their resources together and come up with a long-term and comprehensive solution to the displacement issue affecting the farmworkers and their families. Inaasahan ko po ang report nila sa office ko sa lalong madaling panahon.”
