Two intelligence officers of Pakistan were gunned down outside a roadside restaurant in the Punjab province.

The officers were parking their vehicles when the attack happened on Tuesday, according to Murtaza Bhatti, a senior police officer in the Punjab province, district of Khanewal.

One of the slain officers was the director of the provincial counterterrorism department. The two officers were known for arresting members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan also known as Pakistani Taliban. The nature of their work is investigating and solving complicated cases such as gun and bomb attacks.

Pakistani Taliban and Afghan Taliban are allies, both overpowering neighboring Afghanistan in 2021 after the withdrawal of NATO and United States troops.

Afghan Taliban’s chief spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid clarifies that Afghanistan wants a good relationship with other countries as well as Pakistan. However, he asked Islamabad to stop uttering statements that can lead to mistrust.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan values peace and stability in its country, it wants peace and stability for the whole region and continues its efforts in this way,” said Afghan Taliban’s chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif asked the Taliban rulers to stop the fighters from using soil in attacks. (Reports from Bombo Ica Nuñez)
