Kinalampag ng Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) ang gobyerno na ipatupad na ang total deployment ban sa mga Pilipinong kasambahay sa Kuwait kasunod ng kaso ni Jeanelyn Villavende na pinatay ng kanyang amo noong Disyembre.
Sa inilabas na government data ng TUCP, lumalabas na 200 Pinoy workers na ang namatay sa Kuwait sa nakalipas na apat na taon.
Lahat ng ito’y kwwestyonable o hindi alam kung ano ang naging sanhi.
Nasa halos 300 naman ang tumakas sa kanilang mapang-abusong amo, habang may 30 OFW na nag-suicide.
Malinaw na indikasyong hindi kinikilala ng Kuwaiti government ang sitwasyon ng mga Pilipinong manggagawa, ayon kay TUCP vice president Luis Corral.
“It’s indicative that the government of Kuwait is not taking the plight of our workers seriously and that’s why we’re calling for a total ban on deployment of household service workers,” ani Corral.
Dagdag pa ni Corral, tila natutulog sa pansitan ang Labor offices ng pamahalaan, pati na ang Department of Foreign Affairs na responsable dapat na igiit sa Kuwait ang Standard Employment Contract ng POEA.
“They slept on their jobs, they are incompetent.It was the duty and the obligation of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the DOLE, and POEA to have insisted to their Kuwaiti counterparts that these items be incorporated into the contract.”
Hindi rin nagustuhan ng labor group ang posibilidad na i-lift ng pamahalaan ang deployment ban kapag pormal ng nakasuhan ni Villavende.
