Inatasan ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) ang mga domestic shipping lines na ilaan ang hindi bababa sa 12 percent ng kanilang cargo capacity kada biyahe para sa accommodation ng agricultural at food products.
Ayon kay DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugae, inilabas niya ang Department Order 2020-007 alinsunod sa hakbang ng pamahalaan para ma-contain ang banta ng COVID-19 at pagaanin ang epekto ng pandemya.
Iginiit ni Tugade na sa panahon ngayon kung saan banta pa rin ang COVID-19 pandemic, mahalagang matiyak sa publiko na hindi maantala ang production at delivery ng pagkain at agricultural items lalo pa at umiiral pa rin ang mahigpit na pagtupad sa quarantine measures sa maraming bahagi ng bansa.
“With this department order, our people will be assured of food supply, as each vessel being operated by a domestic shipping line will be carrying needed food and agricultural products to various destinations in the country,” ani Tugade.
Pinuri ni Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez ang naging hakbang na ito ng DOTr.
Ito ay crucial at complementary kasi aniya sa inilabas na memorandum ng DTI para sa pagbawi sa purchase limits sa mga basic goods.
“From the very beginning, the stable supply and unhampered movement of all food and non-food cargoes has always been our priority. This is to prevent the unreasonable increase in the prices of goods, especially at this time of the pandemic when sources of income are limited,” saad ni Lopez.
Nakikita ring malaking tulong ng Department of Agriculture ang hakbang na ito ng DOTr para sa mga consumers dahil maluluwagan nito ang tight supply sa food necessities at para ma-stabilize na rin ang presyo ng mga ito.
