The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday announces that its current record on firecracker related injuries was down by 35% as the country welcomed the new decade.

DOH has recorded 164 cases nationwide where most of this were reported from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 84 cases, CALABARZON with 14, Ilocos Region (12), Central Luzon (11), Cagayan Valley and Western Visayas (20).

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said that this is 87 cases or 35% lower compared to last year.

There were no immediate reports of deaths but DOH is still expecting the casualty count could rise until January 6.

Duque added that the decrease on firecracker related injuries is a proof that the agency’s “Iwas Paputok” campaign since the public became more careful in using firecrackers.
