The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is set to issue a memo circular aimed at protecting users of digital platforms from the dangers of online gambling.
A draft of the circular has been circulated for stakeholder feedback, with the goal of requiring BSP, supervised institutions, such as banks and e-money issuers, to implement safeguards like limiting access to gambling features.
The BSP is taking a collaborative approach to ensure the final policy balances consumer protection with continued access to digital payments for legitimate businesses.
This initiative builds on previous BSP actions, including its 2021 ban on dealings with unlicensed gambling operators and its 2022 directive to remove e-sabong links from digital platforms.
The BSP reaffirms its commitment to fostering a safe, secure, and inclusive digital finance ecosystem for all Filipinos.
