Ipinagmalaki ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na simula nuong buwan ng Enero hanggang sa kasalukuyan sumampa na sa 28 teroristang Abu Sayyaf ang nasawi sa operasyon ng militar habang 29 naman ang sumuko.
Nasa 41 high-powered firearms at pitong improvised explosive devices mula sa teroristang grupo ang narekober matapos makubkob ang ang walong kuta ng Abu Sayyaf Group.
Pinuri ni AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr. ang matagumpay na operasyon ng militar at sinabing dahil sa suporta ng national leadership, interagency cooperation, at ang ‘high state of morale’ ng mga sundalo ang naging dahilan para makamit ang tagumpay.
“The AFP will sustain this momentum against the terror group so that once and for all, peace and development will be genuinely felt by our people,” wika ni Gen. Santos.
Kabilang sa recent accomplishments ng militar ay ang pag-aresto sa ASG bomb expert na si Kahar Indama sa Zamboanga City.
Si Indama ay tinukoy na isa sa nasa likod ng Batasan Complex bombing nuong 2007 na ikinasawi ni dating Basilan Representative Wahab Akbar.
Sumuko naman ang isang ASG imam at dalawang ASG members sa 45th Infantry Battalion sa Patikul, Sulu nuong June 17.
Anim na ASG members naman ang sumuko sa Philippine Marines nuong June 16 sa Luuk, Sulu.
“The AFP leadership salutes our troops from the Western Mindanao Command who continue to risk their lives in carrying out focused military operations to ensure the safety and security of our people in the south,” ayon kay Santos.
Dagdag pa ni AFP chief “Although the accomplishments came with the unfortunate loss from the government side, the AFP will not stop in performing all-out offensives against the terrorists Abu Sayyaf Group and bring justice to their countless acts of violence against our people and the state.”
