Ipinag-utos na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Bureau of Immigration (BI) na huwag papasukin sa Pilipinas sina US Senators Dick Durbin at Patrick Leahy na siyang nagsulong ng probisyon sa US 2020 Budget para pagbawalang makapasok ng Estados Unidos ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno ng bansa sangkot sa pagpapakulong kay Sen. Leila de Lima.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, kung sakaling totohanin ng US ang pag-ban sa mga kinauukulang Philippine government officials, ire-require na rin ng gobyerno sa lahat ng Amerikano na mag-apply at kumuha ng visa bago makapasok ng bansa.
“Meanwhile, the President is immediately ordering the Bureau of Immigration to deny US Senators Dick Durbin and Patrick Leahy, the imperious, uninformed and gullible American legislators who introduced the subject provision in the US 2020 Budget, entry to the Philippines,” ani Sec. Panelo.
Ayon kay Sec. Panelo, ang kaso ni Sen. De Lima ay hindi persekusyon kundi prosekusyon at patunay dito ang kasalukuyang pagdinig ng korte habang nagpasya na rin ang Korte Suprema na valid at ligal ang paglilitis sa senador.
Iginiit pa ni Sec. Panelo na independent state ang Pilipinas at walang ibang estadong maaaring magdikta sa ating mga opisyal, hukom at justices sa pagpapatupad at interpretasyon sa ating mga batas.
“The case of Senator de Lima is not one of persecution but of prosecution. In fact, it is already being heard by our courts. The Philippine Supreme Court, the highest court of our land, has affirmed the incarceration of Senator de Lima as valid and lawful. No other state can dictate upon our officials, judges, and justices the method upon which we enforce or interpret our laws vis-à-vis those who are believed to have committed a violation against the same,” dagdag ni Sec. Panelo.
