Inatasan ng pamahalaang Pilipinas ang Meta Platforms Inc. na higpitan ang pagpigil sa pagkalat ng fake news at mapanlinlang na nilalaman sa mga plataporma nito, kasabay ng babala ng posibleng legal na aksyon kapag hindi agad kumilos.
Sa liham noong April 10 para kay Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Platforms, Inc. chief executive officer, sinabi ng Deparment of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at Presidential Communications Office (PCO) na ang disinformation ay lumalabag sa batas at nagdudulot ng panganib sa kaayusan, ekonomiya, at pambansang seguridad.
“To ensure timely implementation, Meta is required to confirm receipt of this letter within 48 hours and to provide a detailed implementation plan of the measures outlined within seven calendar days from receipt of this letter,” pahayag sa joint letter na nilagdaan nina DICT Secretary Henry Aguda at PCO Acting Secretary Dave Gomez.
Pinapapirma ang Meta na kumpirmahin ang liham sa loob ng 48 oras at magsumite ng plano sa loob ng pitong araw.
Kung mabibigo, maaaring magsagawa ng regulatory at legal na hakbang ang gobyerno.
Binanggit ng pamahalaan ang pagkalat ng maling impormasyon tulad ng pekeng balita sa kalusugan ng mga opisyal, maling anunsyo sa presyo ng langis, at panlilinlang laban sa mga institusyong pinansyal.
Inaasahan din na magpatupad ang Meta ng mas mahigpit na sistema laban sa disinformation, kabilang ang mabilis na pagtanggal ng mapanganib na content at mas malapit na koordinasyon sa gobyerno.
Iginiit ng pamahalaan ang agarang aksyon upang maprotektahan ang publiko laban sa panic at destabilization dulot ng maling impormasyon.
“Failure to take prompt and sufficient action shall constrain the Philippine Government to consider appropriate regulatory and legal measures, in coordination with the National Telecommunications Commission, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and the Department of Justice, consistent with applicable laws and the State’s duty to protect public order and national security,” ayon sa sulat.
