“This is not really a concern that the Vice President prioritizes. She does not really spend any money at all to promote herself on social media,” ani Atty.
“If you look at the previous approval rating and trust rating of the Vice President, it’s largely unchanged. If you look at it from a historical perspective, her numbers have really just revolved around 60% or so approval over the past two, three years or so.”
“And you have to consider that this is also in the face of unrelenting attacks against her on social media. So all things considered, we think this is a very positive result for the Vice President.”
“I think the problem is more with respect to people finding out, or getting informed, about what the Vice President is doing.”
“Since we don’t really have access to the same level of communications infrastructure as Malacañang, and we are under constant attack by trolls and other people who persist in spreading fake news online about the VP, we’re really hitting a disinformation wall and we have to deal with that every day that we are striving to work for the Filipino public.”
“It doesn’t help when, you know, high officials, like Harry Roque, for example: upon hearing the results of the survey, he says that the Vice President is the one politicking—but he’s the one who has first transformed this into a political issue.”
“The other is try to engage the communities. So a lot of people have actually, you know, volunteered for many of OVP’s initiatives.”
“And I think that a lot of them have also realized the importance of not just working with the VP, but also talking about the work that they have been doing with the VP on social media, to counter the disinformation going out there.”
