Tiwala si dating Ombudsman at retired Supreme Court associate justice Conchita Carpio-Morles na magiging patas ang imbestigasyon ng anti-graft body sa umano’y iregularidad sa COVID-19 response ng Department of Health (DOH).
Sa isang virtual town hall forum, sinabi ni Morales na ang mga taong kanyang iniwan sa Office of the Ombudsman ay hindi kaagad maimpluwensyahan ng aniya’y “outside influence.”
“Given the apparent passion of the present team of investigators dwelling on the alleged irregularities attendant to the discharge of office by the Department of Health, I would suppose that they would come up with a fair report and fair recommendation,” ani Morales.
Binigyan diin din nito na dapat ipagpatuloy ang imbestigasyon kahit pa kumpiyansa si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa integridad ni Health Sec. Francisco Duque III.
Kamakailan lang ay sinabi ni Ombudsman Samuel Martires na ipinag-utos niya ang pagsasagawa ng motu propio investigation laban kina Duque at iba pang health officials hinggil sa iba’t ibang issue na may kaugnayan sa pandemic response ng DOH.
Kabilang sa mga alegasyon na iniimbestigahan ay ang delayed procurement ng personal protective equipment at iba pang medical gears; lapses at iregularidad na siyang nagresulta sa pagkamatay ng mga medical workers; delay sa release ng benefits para sa mga pumanaw na health workers; at nakakalitong reporting sa COVID-19 related deaths at confirmed cases.
