Pinadadagdagan ni Sen. Francis Pangilinan ang allowance ng mga guro kasabay ng pagbubukas ng panibagong school year sa mga pampublikong eskwelahan, ngayong nasa gitna pa ng COVID-19 pandemic crisis ang bansa.
Ayon sa mambabatas, maaaring ilipat sa allowance ng teachers para sa internet at paggawa ng modules ang P3,500 na chalk allowance.
“Tomorrow, teachers, parents, and of course students will face learning in the time of COVID. The type of teaching and learning will be very different so we need to support each other,” ani Pangilinan sa isang statement.
“Our teachers are again going out of their way to reach and connect and share knowledge with their students. While they used to spend their own money for their students’ notebooks and other school supplies, now they are chipping in their own money to buy printers to reproduce modules,” dagdag ng senador.
May nakabinbin ngayon na panukala sa Senado hinggil sa dagdag na allowance ng public school teachers para sa kanilang teaching supplies. Mula sa P3,500 dapat daw ay i-akyat ito sa P5,000.
Dagdag ni Pangilinan, hindi sapat ang P15-billion allocation para sa Flexible Learning Options sa ilalim ng panukalang budget ng Department of Education nang suriin ng Aral Pilipinas, na isang civil society group na nagsusulong ng reporma sa sektor ng edukasyon.
Ayon sa grupo, P67-billion ang kakailanganin para sa module printing ng kalahati mula sa kabuuang bilang ng mga estudyante sa public school ngayong bagong school year.
“We support Aral Pilipinas’ proposal to increase the budget for Flexible Learning Option from P15 billion to P55 billion. The P40 billion additional budget will fully cover the production and reproduction of learning materials for K-12 for at least 50% of the enrolled learning population for the coming school year,” ayon sa minority senator.
Bukas balik klase na ang public schools sa buong Pilipinas.
