Hinimok ni Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez ang mababang kapulungan ng Kongreso na taasan ang pondo ng Office of the Ombudsman para sa susunod na taon.
Sa House Resolution No. 1270 na kanyang isinumite, iminungkahi ni Rodrigyez na madagdagan ng P1.258 billion ang P3.623 billion na alokasyon ng Office of the Ombudsman sa ilalim ng National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Nabatid na ang orihinal na request ng Office of the Ombudsman ay P4.678 billion pero tanging P3.623 billion lamang dito ang inaprubahan ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM), na mas mababa ng 22.07 percent kumpara sa budget ngayong 2020 na P4.105 billion.
Iginiit ni Rodriguez na ang pagbabawas sa pondo ng Ombudsman ay paglabag sa Saligang Batas at sa Republic Act No. 6770, o “An Act providing for the functional and structural organization of the Office of the Ombudsman and for other purposes.”
Hindi aniya maaring mas mababa ang pondong ibibigay sa Ombudsman kumpara sa alokasyon nito sa mga nakalipas na taon.
“Considering the very vital role the Office of the Ombudsman plays in the fight against corruption, it is important that they are given the proper appropriations in the budget,” giit ni Rodriguez.
