Nag-deklara ng unilateral ceasefire si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga rebelde dahil sa umiiral na Enhanced Community Quarantine sa buong Luzon.
Ayon kay Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, simula hatinggabi ng March 19 magiging epektibo ang ceasefire sa pagitan ng pwersa ng pamahalaan at Communist Party of the Philippines-the New People’s Army-the National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF). Magtatagal daw ito hanggang hatinggabi ng April 15, 2020.
Inatasan na raw ng chief executive ang Department of National Defense (DND) at Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), kasama ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Philippine National Police (PNP) na itigil muna ang kanilang military at police operations sa gitna ng ceasefire period.
“Both of these departments shall issue the corresponding orders to implement the declaration of the unilateral ceasefire, including the Suspension of Offensive Military and Police Operations (SOMO). “
Umaasa ang palasyo na sa pamamagitan ng ceasefire ay mapapabilis at hindi maaantala ang paghahatid ng public health assistance sa mga komunidad.
“Through this ceasefire, the Philippine Government aspires that the swift provision of public health assistance goes unimpeded with the movement of health workers and medical supplies to communities, as well as of people in need of immediate medical attention remains unhampered.”
