Nanindigan ang grupo ng ilang oil companies kontra sa hiling ng Department of Energy (DOE) na doblehin ang kanilang reserba ng langis bilang tugon sakaling magkaroon ng sakuna sa sektor ng enerhiya.
Sa ipinatawag na pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Energy, sinabi ng Philippine Institute of Petroleum (PIP) na malaking hamon para sa kanilang hanay ang agarang pagtatayo ng mga bagong pasilidad nang walang suporta mula sa gobyerno.
“Theoretically, that also means doubling the capacity and infrastructure, in which of course, needs time because as probably measured, a petroleum product is a different kind of commodity. It is covered with a lot, or number of safety features to restore a petroleum product,” ani PIP executive director Teddy Reyes.
Pareho rin ang sentimyento ng Independent Petroleum Producers (IPP) dahil minsan malaking kalugian naman daw ito sa mga kompanya.
“When a crisis like this erupted during Iraq war, there was a flex from the government. We were ask to double the inventory. In just two days, supply normalize. Those who complied were burned, because they contracted a high price and forced to sell at a market. That’s the danger,” ani IPP president Fernando Martinez.
Batay sa datos ng DOE, mas mababa ang lebel ng presyuhan ng langis ngayon sa world market kumpara sa benchmark noong nakaraang taon na $84-kada bariles na Dubai crude.
Simula mamayang hatinggabi, mararamdaman na ang P1.80 hanggang P2-kada litro na increase sa presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo.
Ayon sa Oil Industry Management Bureau, dumaan naman sa lehitimong proseso ang adjustment.
Nilinaw din ng ahensya na hindi magtatagal ang oil price hike, batay sa pag-aaral ng international players.
