The country’s fisheries production declined in the first three quarters of the current year.

The fisheries sector contributed up to P58.72 billion worth of production or equivalent to 14.2% of the total agricultural output.

This is down 6.1% compared to last year’s production.

Most of the recorded declines are in the production of shrimp, tuna, sardines, crabs, bangus, and other types of fish, which are usually from capture fisheries.

Despite this, an increase in production was recorded in other industries under the Fishing sector.

This includes the seaweeds industry or industry of sea plants, galunggong, yellowfin tuna, tilapia, and even matangabaka.
