Senate Pres. EnrileAminado si Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile na pati ang kanyang pasensya ay nasusubukan na sa impeachment trial kay Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Ayon kay Enrile, hindi lamang ang usapin sa legalidad ang pinag-aaralan nito sa Corona trial kundi kung paano tratuhin ang mga concerns ng magkabilang panig pati na ang hirit ng mga kasamahang senator-judges.

"Not only do I have to carefully study the legalities of all the issues and concerns being raised by both the Prosecution and the Defense, but I also have to consider and balance the divergent and, most of the time, opposing views of my colleagues, my fellow Senator-Judges. It seems that not only Chief Justice Corona is being tried here, but also my patience," ayon kay Ernile.

Bagamat aminado si Ernile na hindi nito maaaring pigilin o kontrolin ang kapwa senator-judges sa Corona trial lalo na sa akusasyon na tumutulong na sa prosekusyon sa paghahanap ng ebidensya para idiin sa kaso ang punong mahistrado.

Makailang beses na ring sinubukan ang pasensya ng 88-anyos na presiding officer kung saan kabilang na rito ang hirit ni House lead prosecutor Rep. Niel Tupas na maging liberal sa paghawak ng kaso ni Corona.

Binigyang diin pa ni Enrile na mabigat ang tungkulin na ginagampanan ngayon ng Senado bilang impeachment court dahil nakasalay dito ang magiging imahe ng kapulungan pati ang posibleng epekto sa democratic system ng bansa.

"We carry a very heavy burden on our shoulders nowadays. After all, in the context of the ongoing impeachment trial, the people’s faith in the Senate of the Republic, the image and the very fabric of our nation and our democratic system are at stake," dagdag pa ni Enrile.
